What to do by layover length
Under 4 hours: stay in the airport
- A very large single terminal; walking between gates can take 20 minutes or more.

4 to 8 hours
Getting to Istanbul takes about 80 minutes round trip, so a city trip is tight. Consider staying airside or nearby.
8 hours or more: leave the airport
M11 metro to Gayrettepe, about 35 to 40 minutes; the old city takes an hour or more by road.
