What to do by layover length

Under 4 hours: stay in the airport

  • Haneda is close to the city, which makes it one of the best airports for a short city visit.
  • Terminal 3 has an Edo-style shopping and dining street landside.

4 to 8 hours

A short city visit can work if your passport allows entry. Allow about 40 minutes round trip, plus immigration both ways and at least 2 hours before departure to get back through security.

8 hours or more: leave the airport

Keikyu line or Tokyo Monorail into central Tokyo, about 15 to 30 minutes depending on where you go.

Transit and visa basics

Many passports can enter Japan visa-free for short stays; check yours. Official source. Also check your airline's connection rules and the official Tokyo Haneda website.

Lounges

Lounge access depends on your airline, ticket class, or a membership. Search Priority Pass lounges at HND, or check lounge listings on the airport's website.
